God's Gifts

What a joy it is to give! What a deep and beautiful sense of love and gratitude may be expressed by gifts! If we, having still before us much of unfoldment, are able to give to one another in love, how much more then must God, who is infinite divine Love, be able to give to us of His abundance!

God's gifts are as unlimited as is the source from which they come; but mortals have tried to limit them with such terms as "talent," "genius," or "original creative power," and have considered them as belonging only to certain individuals who are "especially gifted," as they say, or who have inherited them; whereas the real self of each of us, as God's expression, God's image and likeness, reflects God and the ability to express Him. Our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, on page 591, defines "man" as "the compound idea of infinite Spirit; the spiritual image and likeness of God; the full representation of Mind."

It is the desire to express God and so to live each day that His great goodness may be manifested, which enables us to realize the gifts that God is always bestowing on all His children. As we grow in our understanding of God and His universe, forever reflecting perfect activity and harmony, we find our right work and know that of our own selves we can do nothing. As a loved hymn says,
