I can never be grateful enough to God; to Christ Jesus,...
I can never be grateful enough to God; to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; to Mary Baker Eddy; and to Christian Science for all the physical, mental, financial, and business healings I have had through the application of the truth it reveals. I am also very grateful for the unity of thought in the home, which is such a help in overcoming erroneous conditions when they present themselves.
That a single statement of truth, when expressed with right understanding, is sufficient to effect an instantaneous healing was proved to me some years ago before coming into Christian Science. I had been suffering from a skin eruption for many months; and besides being in terrible bondage through the medical treatment I was undergoing, I was also in such a weakened mental condition, the result of worry caused by the failure of two eminent physicians to help me, that self-destruction often presented itself to me. Again, "man's extremity" proved to be "God's opportunity." One morning while I was preparing to go through one of the treatments, my wife, who was a student of Christian Science, looked at the condition, which seemed very real to sense, and made the following remark: "Yes, it seems terrible; but, just think, God does not know anything about it!" After this remark I decided not to take any more medical treatments; and the next day I found that the condition was disappearing. The healing had been almost instantaneous. I had been told by both physicians that they hoped to cure me, and also to keep the condition from being manifested on my face, but they claimed that my body would always be scarred. I do not now bear one scar on my body from this experience. I felt that I was not worthy of this healing, as I did not study Christian Science, but went along taking all the loaves and fishes as they came, and expecting a few more.
My next healing was of lumbago in one treatment, after being a sufferer from it for many years. I was helpless, not even able to move my limbs, when I reluctantly consented that a practitioner should be called. This occurred soon after I had lost a member of my family through death, and conditions seemed very dark. About half an hour after the practitioner left I got up and went downstairs for luncheon. I am very grateful for that healing, and feel as though I must tell the world about it.
