In a recent issue of your Journal a correspondent, while truthfully explaining the necessity of giving heed to the mental state of his patient while treating cases of high blood pressure, conveyed a false impression of the methods employed in Christian Science practice when he mentioned our religion among healing agencies "in which the laying on of hands is the method of suggestion." Permit me to inform your readers that the practice of Christian Science includes healing the sick by prayer or spiritual means alone. Mary Baker Eddy, the Founder of our denomination, defines the methods employed by Christian Science practitioners when she writes: "He never lays his hands on the patient, nor manipulates the parts of the body supposed to be ailing. Above all, he keeps unbroken the Ten Commandments, and practises Christ's Sermon on the Mount" (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 12).
