At the time that I took up the study of Christian Science...
At the time that I took up the study of Christian Science, about four years ago, it was not for physical healing for myself, but to help my husband. He had suffered from stomach trouble for years. He was then in a hospital, facing an operation. We both agreed to turn to Christian Science for help. I took my husband home and called a practitioner. In less than a week he was able to eat anything that he desired, and in a short time was healed. We both studied very hard, and soon were able to overcome the prejudices we thought we had against Christian Science.
My first physical healing was the overcoming of quinsy. When I had it before, my throat had to be lanced. This time the healing was instantaneous, while sitting in the practitioner's office. Many other healings followed, including constipation which followed childbirth. My first two children were born in a hospital, and I was not allowed to get up under three weeks in either instance. Our third baby was born at home under Christian Science treatment. The experience was a revelation, and a most happy one. I kept no record of the time for the arrival. The birth occurred shortly after I had gone downstairs for breakfast, and thirty minutes before the practitioner arrived. I had no sense of fear, and was soon up, holding the baby. Christian Science is certainly a boon to mothers, as it releases them both from the fear and from a mistaken sense of parenthood.
When my dear brother met with a fatal accident, the lesson that week was on "Life," and it healed me of grief. My glasses, which I had worn for years, were broken last winter and I have never felt the need of them since.
