In the report of the meeting of the British Israel World Federation...
Bath and Wilts Chronicle and Herald
In the report of the meeting of the British Israel World Federation in your recent issue, the chairman is quoted as follows: "With British Israel Christ was all in all, but in the case of the other two [philosophy and Christian Science], one ignored him altogether and the other (he thought he was right in saying) denied his divinity." As the chairman has expressed some doubt on the subject, and feeling sure that he would not wish to misrepresent the teachings of Christian Science to your readers, I offer the following correction. Christian Scientists do most definitely believe in the divinity of the Christ, as the following quotations from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, prove: "Christ. The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error" (p. 583); "The divinity of the Christ was made manifest in the humanity of Jesus" (p. 25); "This Christ, or divinity of the man Jesus, was his divine nature, the godliness which animated him" (p. 26). Christian Science makes the distinction between the historical, bodily, human presence on earth of Jesus, and the eternal, spiritual, ever present Christ, or divine manifestation of God which Jesus referred to when he said, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." God and His Christ are All-in-all to the Christian Scientist, and he is endeavoring to prove this fundamental of his religion by obeying the commands of Christ Jesus to heal the sick as well as the sinning.
