[Original testimony in German]

At the beginning of March, 1924, our little daughter was taken ill. The doctor could make no specific diagnosis, and she grew perceptibly worse. The doctor called again, but neither medicine nor packs caused the fever to abate. We called in another very eminent physician, who diagnosed the difficulty as a serious case of inflammation of the lungs and pleurisy. He did not say much to me, but he expressed himself very pessimistically to my husband, especially as the action of the heart was very irregular. Up to that time I had not slept a wink for four days and five nights, and I began to realize that even this physician could not help us.

Sitting by the sick child's bed, I thought of a good friend who, every time he visited us, told us a great deal about Christian Science and praised its works. I asked my husband to get in touch with this man and ask him where we could get Christian Science help. He went to the post office and found the address of the Christian Science Reading Room in the directory there. When he was going to call up the Reading Room, the post office officials laughed at him and advised him not to, saying, "How could those people help you, if such an eminent physician could not?" He allowed himself to be influenced and came back without having accomplished his purpose.

I was very much disappointed. The next morning I persuaded him to go again to the post office, for I was thoroughly convinced that we could be helped only by Christian Science. This time he carried out his intention. That very hour the child, who up to that time had had a high, dry fever, began to perspire. When my husband returned, he said a practitioner had commenced treatment at once. Very soon our fear and anxiety yielded. The child, who had refused all nourishment, asked for something to eat. We had become quiet; the peace of God had entered in. The fever abated rapidly, and the next morning had disappeared. My husband asked the physician not to call again. He would not believe that the child was well, and said, "You have no idea how very ill your child is." But our child still feels perfectly well to-day.
