God, the Giver of All Good
WHEN Paul declared to the men of Athens that God, whom they ignorantly worshiped, was not an unknown God but One who could be understood, he proclaimed a fact which has since been verified through the teachings of Christian Science. In the same chapter he states very convincingly, "God... dwelleth not in temples made with hands; neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things."
Paul was very practical in his ways of thinking; and we know that it is the practical application of the promises, the spiritual truths, and the prophecies which are recorded in the Bible and upon which our Leader established Christian Science, that will enable mankind to prove the truth of the statement quoted above. These helpful truths about God are to become so established in the thoughts of every student of Christian Science that in whatever guise mortal mind evidence may appear, it will be realized to be powerless.
Practical experiences have always been most helpful to the writer, and she would like to mention one. One morning, when she was very busy with the home duties for a family of four, the younger daughter came to her before starting for school and said, "Oh, mother, I have such a terrible pain in my side, it takes my breath away!" The call was so plaintive, and yet so urgent, that the mother stopped in her work and, looking at the girl, asked if she thought the pain were real. The answer, which was in the negative, expressed so much doubt that it was at once seen that the question must be reasoned out. Instantly the last part of the passage quoted at the beginning of this article came as a revelation, proving what Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 347): "The dream that matter and error are something must yield to reason and revelation."
