Three and a half years ago I was a broken-down individual, mentally and physically. According to physicians, I was suffering from tuberculosis; and they gave me only a short time to live. As the fall approached I grew constantly worse, my temperature usually being 101.5 degrees, but often higher. Besides this, I was sore and torn internally. I had recently passed through inexpressibly trying experiences, which weighed heavily on me. I was surrounded at that time by dark, impenetrable night, as it seemed to me, and death was awaiting me. And I did so want to live! In such an hour of despair it suddenly came to me, like a ray of light, that I had once heard something about Christian Science. I did not know anything about its teaching, but I had heard that it would heal every kind of sickness. I must admit I did not have any faith in this, but, as a drowning man catches at a straw, I decided at least to try Christian Science; it was my last hope.

As nothing was known about Christian Science at that time in Dorpat, I went to Riga, where I immediately received loving treatment from a Christian Science practitioner. After three treatments the cough left me, and after eight I was healed. This healing took place quite suddenly. I was walking along the street when it became tangibly clear to me that I, as God's perfect likeness, must reflect health, and that I lived, moved, and had my being in Him; and all at once it seemed as if something fell from me, I felt so light and happy—and I knew and felt I was well.

There is no language in the world with which I could express what I felt at that time. I could, in my overflowing joy, have exclaimed to everybody, Rejoice with me, for I am well! My heart was filled with exultation, and it seemed as if everything in me was singing and ringing. Besides being physically healed, I was also healed mentally. I had found peace and harmony and happiness.
