Le Progres de la Côte d'Or

Allow me to reply to certain passages in Monsieur Paul-Louis Hervier's article, entitled, "An Original Cure," which appeared in your recent issue. Christian Science is a religion which is based upon the understanding of God as supreme and infinite good. The followers of Christian Science have an absolute trust in God, good, and have proved in a practical way that He is "a very present help in trouble." All will admit that God is good and that He is infinite. Now, if good is infinite, can evil exist as a reality? No! Evil in all its forms—sickness, sin, and so forth—is not real in the absolute meaning of the word "real."

One need only lift one's thought to the realization of the ever-presence of God as divine Love, infinite good, for sickness to disappear. This is not autosuggestion; it is the understanding of the true nature of God. This understanding comes to the Christian Scientist through the study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This book teaches those who study it seriously how to change their way of thinking, how to think good thoughts instead of evil thoughts, how to think harmoniously—in fact, how to know the truth; and this is what produces an improvement in one's health. The Christian Scientist does not repeat formulas, he learns to know God and to express more of His divine qualities; and this is what brings about the transformation of the body through the renewing of the mind.
