Man's Dominion

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has, in her profound writings, given to the world remarkable and provable statements whereby mankind can learn to understand and utilize the God-given power which is man's rightful inheritance. The Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," is aglow with such statements, simple in expression but mighty in the truth revealed.

On page 253 of Science and Health we find the words, "Matter can make no opposition to right endeavors against sin or sickness, for matter is inert, mindless." To one striving to realize man's dominion over error, the truth revealed in these words may always be proved a bulwark of hope, however urgent the need may seem. It enables one to see that matter and its conditions have naught to do with Life, and have no power against right endeavor. This turns us away from so-called material remedies to the glorious Christ-cure, as taught in Christian Science. The truth in this statement is revealed in many other statements contained in the inspired writings of our Leader. Through the reading of the Christian Science textbook alone many have been healed of discordant conditions. Diseases which have been pronounced incurable have yielded to these angels of His presence, these God-given thoughts, which lead to light and Life.

The Bible, when read in the light of Christian Science, becomes to the earnest student an open book. Many passages, which before seemed obscure and mysterious, become wonderful beacon lights along our path, when understood in their true import. There is never a moment when God's promises are not available; and if in the maze of human experience we sometimes seem to stand alone in darkness and doubt, even then we can reach out with a sure hope; for as we read in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 81), "In the desolation of human understanding, divine Love hears and answers the human call for help." By listening for the voice of Truth we can prove this Biblical statement: "Even the night shall be light about me."
