A doctor has written a letter in order to establish the fact...

A doctor has written a letter in order to establish the fact that Christian Science denies the reality of sin. He is perfectly right in this statement, but the conclusion he draws that therefore the need of a Saviour from sin is denied, is his own conclusion, and is not found anywhere in the teaching of Christian Science. Perhaps this illogical conclusion arises from ignorance of the meaning of the term "reality" as used in this connection. According to St. John's Gospel, "All things were made by him [God]; and without him was not anything made that was made." Therefore what He did not make is unreal, even though it appears to be. And sin, sickness, and death must be among these unreal things, since God saw everything that He had made and it was very good. Christ Jesus came to save men, not merely through pardon which leaves them free to continue in sin, but by the destruction of sin and the reform of the sinner. Speaking of disease and sin, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 60), "The Nazarene Prophet could make the unreality of both apparent in a moment;" and, on page 221 of the same work, Mrs. Eddy says, "Error produces physical sufferings, and these sufferings show the fundamental Principle of Christian Science; namely, that error and sickness are one, and Truth is their remedy."
