Protecting the City

To a race in bondage to materiality, weary and discouraged with futile efforts to solve the perplexing problems of material existence, came the revelation of Mary Baker Eddy that "all is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 468), and its corollary that what is called human or material existence is but the seeming expression of a false concept of this spiritual truth. Myriads of plans and ways have been invented, advocated, and tried repeatedly to insure deliverance from material bondage, and weary multitudes have reached the conclusion that a solution does not exist. They have accepted the hopeless definition given by Pope:
