I often wonder if I can ever express my gratitude for the many blessings I have received in Christian Science, which was presented to me by a friend many years ago. I was then young, but without hope of any future health. My father and mother had both passed on with tuberculosis, which it was believed I had inherited and from which I was suffering. Several doctors were consulted; none gave me any encouragement. My wife and I took up the study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I was healed permanently and thoroughly; and my wife was healed of chronic stomach trouble, from which she had suffered since childhood.
Although my parents were good Christian people I had lived far from the teachings of Christ Jesus and the Bible. It was therefore necessary for me to learn to demonstrate that the study and practice of Christian Science will heal all sickness, discord, and sin. At one time my wife and three children were in bed at the same time with diphtheria. After several nights of darkness and despair the glorious dawn of Truth broke through the darkness, and they were healed through Christian Science alone, and with no bad after effects.
One of the most remarkable healings we have had in our family was of our youngest son, then two years old. We were living in the country, and the child in playing around the yard went over into the pasture, where he was attacked by a horse that knocked him down, pawed him, and stepped on him with his forefeet. As my wife, who saw it, called and ran toward the horse, he turned, kicked the boy, and ran away. She carried the child into the house. A Christian Science practitioner was called over the telephone, and the child was given absent treatment. During the first few hours he cried some, but later went to sleep and slept all night. The next morning he arose, and, except for the prints of the horse's hoofs and some bruises, seemed quite normal, although his leg showed evidences of having been broken above the knee. To-day he is a happy, romping boy, perfectly normal in every way, and attends the Christian Science Sunday School.
