As I read in the Sentinel of November 1, 1924, the editorial entitled "If these should hold their peace," my thought was arrested by this statement: "Mrs. Eddy has made clear in the Manual of The Mother Church the duty of Christian Scientists to give testimonies, including both those which are for publication in the periodicals and those which are heard in the Wednesday evening meetings." While in the Wednesday evening meetings I have often given testimonies of healing experienced, it had never before come to me forcibly that testimonies for publication in our periodicals are as requisite a part of our bearing witness to the efficacy of Christian Science healing of all manner of inharmonies as are the spoken word, the shining countenance, and the daily deeds. I am grateful for this editorial; and it is a joy here and now to bear witness in this wise to the efficacy of Christian Science in its healing and regenerative work.

This new-old truth came to me at a time when grief over the shattering of my fondest dream of human relationship, and the passing on of a beloved sister, had plunged me into chaos and despair. I cried out for God to comfort me, but I could not find Him. I was teaching at the time, and two of my dear students, without my ever having mentioned to them my need, perceived it and put into my hands some Christian Science literature. On reading this literature, I at once realized that the way for me to find God and solace had appeared. Through a dear friend I was supplied with a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which I read and studied as a drowning man grasps the means of rescue. From that point my grief was assuaged; and in course of time I perceived "beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness."

I have also experienced healing of physical inharmonies, notably the healing of an abnormal growth in one of my groins. This healing resulted from Science work done with vehemence at a time when pain and fear, heretofore absent, were manifested. This was a case where suffering was markedly salutary, as it awakened me to the fact that because there had been no sense of pain I had lazily let the thing grow. Almost simultaneously with the work done, this growth of four years' standing disappeared. This was nearly fifteen years ago, and there has been no return.
