It was in 1898 that my father and mother took up the study of Christian Science; and naturally I, their child, did the same thing. The first healing in our family was of a broken arm. The healing was perfect.
When fourteen years old, three days before the Fourth of July, I purchased a blank cartridge revolver. While showing it to a boy friend, I pulled back the trigger to take out the cartridge. At once it went off, while the open end of the barrel was resting against my finger. Running home to my mother, I told her I wanted only Christian Science treatment. She called up a practitioner, and by the Fourth the powder and cap came out naturally, leaving no bad after effects. At another time when a boy, a milk wagon ran over both of my feet. Through Christian Science treatment I was entirely healed, no trace of the accident being left.
I have had the privilege of class instruction in Christian Science. Later, when at home one evening, I felt a terrible pain in my stomach. My first thought was to call a practitioner; but as we should try to do our own metaphysical work, I began to declare to myself the allness of God and the nothingness of error. It was not five minutes before I was entirely free from any sense of pain; and I have had no recurrence of the trouble.
