Christian Science is referred to in a recent report of a sermon in such a way as to make it appear to claim that its teachings improve on the teachings of the ninety-first psalm and the sixth chapter of Matthew; whereas Christian Scientists make no claim that their teachings improve upon any of those of the Bible. Christian Science is not an improvement on the Scriptures, but the spiritual interpretation thereof; which interpretation, rightly understood, enables its students to heal not only such peace-destroying and morbific mental states as worry, but functional and organic ills as well,—including those deemed dangerous or incurable,—making the sick, as well as the sinning, "every whit whole."

While Christian Science demonstrates that "the prayer of faith shall save the sick" to-day as surely as it did nineteen centuries ago, this faith is based on an actual understanding of God's unerring spiritual law, and not on mere belief, and is demonstrably scientific; hence, Christian Science practice is not to be confused with psychology or any psychotherapeutic method or system, as it has no relationship whatever to such practices. Christian Science is not a mere "modern religious cult," but a discovery—a discovery of the divine Principle and law underlying and basing the teaching and practice of Christ Jesus. It likewise makes clear the spiritually scientific sense of the Scriptures, and reinstates primitive Christianity. In speaking of the means and methods whereby all may learn and practice Christian healing, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, on page 271 of her volume, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," says: "The Scriptures contain it. The spiritual import of the Word imparts this power."
