The editorial reference to Christian Science appearing in your recent issue may, without direct intention, lead those of your readers not otherwise informed, to believe that Christian Science is nothing other than thought manipulation, and that its teaching inculcate a state of self-deception. Such mistaken beliefs about Christian Science tend to obscure, from many who are in need of its beneficent ministrations, the truths of this religion, whose millions of adherents are intelligent men and women. ... This Science does not consist of a number of denials, such as the cold assertion that nothing ails you, or the denial that evil and disease are conditions with which mortals have to contend. It does teach, however, that inharmony of any sort finds no place in God's true creation, and that sin and disease can be eliminated through an exact understanding of God and of man's true relationship to Him. This scientific knowledge of God and man, gained through a study of the Bible in connection with the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and correctly applied, constitutes the expressing of that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus."

The worshiping of Him "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases," with a full complement of faith and understanding, characterizes the true practice of Christian Science, a practice which will heal any and all harmful conditions to which mankind may be subjected. Affirming her unswerving allegiance to God, Mrs. Eddy writes, on page 340 of Science and Health: "'Thou shalt have no other gods before me.' (Exodus xx. 3.) The First Commandment is my favorite text. It demonstrates Christian Science." And she goes on to say, "One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, 'Love thy neighbor as thyself;' annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry,—whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed."
