I am grateful to God for Christ Jesus and the splendid example he left for all men to follow. I am very grateful for Mary Baker Eddy and her works. Christian Science has often helped me when I have been sorely pressed; and I have had a number of proofs of the healing power of Truth. The first came over thirteen years ago, when, after one Christian Science treatment, I was healed of the excessive use use both tobacco and liquor. This healing came with no effort of my part, and was accepted as a matter of course; and I was not grateful enough to give thanks. A number of years later, through the uncovering and destruction of sin, I was again healed after months of both physical and mental suffering. Truth came to me gradually, but has completely change my viewpoint of life.

For many years I had been intensively engaged in business, and now, looking back on this experience, I realize that I had been worshiping false gods,—material success, power, and position. I had reached what I considered the height of my career, and was about to enjoy great reward for my efforts, when suddenly I was compelled to abandon every one of my activities. Almost helpless from great fear, I was taken to doctors, who found me partially blind and suffering from a blood pressure so aggravated that my recovery was despaired of. During the next two years I lived in and out of hospitals under the care of the best physicians, but my condition was in no way improved. Human help had failed, and I was filled with despair. This was indeed man's extremity and God's opportunity, for I once more turned to Christian Science. My healing was very gradual, and in my impatience I changed practitioners ten times; but I realize now that each practitioner, as well as loving Christian Science friends, marked the milestones of progress along the way from darkness to light. Finally, about two years ago, the truth was revealed to me, and I was healed. I had been made humble, and love came where there had been envy and jealousy; patience supplanted impatience; and the desire for great material gain left me.

Since that time I have been striving more and more to follow in the footsteps of Christ Jesus and to know God better. Many times each day my prayer of gratitude goes heavenward. Fear, which caused all my unbelief, has been controlled, and that peace of mind "which passeth all understanding" has come.
