One
of the first steps the beginner in Christian Science takes is to gain a new and better idea of God, thus replacing the old concept of God as the sender of sickness, sorrow, punishment, poverty, and death.
To
many the hours of waiting seem long, wearisome periods of inactivity, mere waste of time, when every one seems rushing on towards some achievement, some goal or object, that appears necessary to still further advancement.
Frederick C. M. Voigt, Assistant Committee on Publication for Orange Free State, South Africa,
My attention has just been drawn to a report in the Friend of recent date of the inaugural address of the president of the Wesleyan Conference, at Port Elizabeth, during the course of which he mentions Christian Science in a manner which is likely to be misleading, and I shall be glad if you will kindly permit me to refer to it in your columns.
Fred Yould, Committee on Publication for the State of Georgia,
The editorial reference to Christian Science appearing in your recent issue may, without direct intention, lead those of your readers not otherwise informed, to believe that Christian Science is nothing other than thought manipulation, and that its teaching inculcate a state of self-deception.
J. Latimer Davis, Committee on Publication for the State of Iowa,
In a sermon reported in your recent issue a minister, referring to Christian Science, said: "There is a lot of truth in Christian Science, as any physician will admit; but it has its limitations.
In
that familiar passage from John's gospel, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," it is to be observed that the gaining of the truth which makes free was contingent upon the circumstance of continuing in the Master's word.
To insure that complete lecture notices be printed in the Sentinel, detailed information should reach the Editorial Department regarding lectures in the United States and Canada, four weeks before the date of the lecture; in Great Britain and Ireland, five weeks before; in other European countries, six weeks before.
Although I have wandered through years of darkness trying to find more of the light of Truth, it is only of late years that I have known and have had the privilege of glimpsing some of the many true channels already laid out for us by the one Supreme Being.
For some time I have been thinking that I should express my gratitude for Christian Science by sending a testimony to the Christian Science Sentinel, as I have been greatly helped and encouraged by reading there the accounts of other healings.
It is over thirteen years since Christian Science was first brought to my notice, and I esteem it a privilege to have, through the columns of the Christian Science Sentinel, the opportunity of expressing my sincere gratitude for the many blessings I have received through the revelation of Truth as given to the world in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
Articles from members of The Mother Church and good testimonies from those healed by Christian Science are always welcomed for consideration by the Editors.
