Loving Good

Through the teachings of Christian Science many are awakening to the great fact that all good comes to us through obedience to divine law. And Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (Pref., p. vii), "The only guarantee of obedience is a right apprehension of Him whom to know aright is Life eternal." To gain this "right apprehension of Him" is the goal toward which we are striving, in order that we may realize our heritage, eternal Life.

In the tenth chapter of Luke's gospel an account is given of the lawyer who certainly spoke for all of us when he said, "Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" The answer Jesus gave him is of vital interest, for it is the perfect answer to this question. We read: "He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live."

Obviously, then, the first great lesson we must learn in our journey from the belief in material sense to the understanding of Soul is to love God. The Bible from Genesis to Revelation iterates and reiterates this greatest of all commandments. And the reward for loving Him is so great that we wonder that all do not more diligently seek to obey the commandment. Paul writes in the second chapter of I Corinthians, "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."
