Mrs. Eddy says in the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 573), "Take heart, dear sufferer, for this [spiritual] reality of being will surely appear sometime and in some way." And this time surely came to me.
About twelve years ago, when I found myself in an almost helpless condition with heart trouble, which the doctors said was incurable, I turned to Christian Science as a last resort. A practitioner was called in, and I shall never forget with what reluctance I admitted that God was my Life; for I had always thought of the heart as of the most vital importance where life was concerned. The practitioner called my attention to what Jesus said to his disciples: "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." I learned these words, and would fall asleep at night repeating them; and I was healed in just three treatments.
Then, as I began to study Christian Science, getting out the Lesson-Sermon, I began to see that I was looking only for a right understanding of God; and in two years I had my complete healing of other chronic ills. My thought was uplifted to see the healing Christ; and for this I can never show too much gratitude. I am indeed grateful to God for the wonderful spiritual understanding given to Mrs. Eddy, whereby she gave this beautiful truth to the world. I can never be too grateful for the wonderful experience of going through class.
