A medical doctor says, "The Christian Scientist will direct his thought and prayers so that a certain ailment may be healed," under the theory that concentration of thought on a certain part of the body causes the blood to rush to that part of the body. That is not the method of Christian Science treatment. The healing in Christian Science is accomplished in the way and in accord with the method taught and practiced by Jesus the Christ. Jesus was the one who was most successful in healing all manner of disease and in reforming the sinner.

Mary Baker Eddy discovered this method of treating disease as practiced by Jesus, and gave it to the world in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." In referring to her discovery of the method by which Jesus healed the sick in such a successful manner, she says, on page 109 of the above-mentioned textbook, "I knew the Principle of all harmonious Mind-action to be God, and that cures were produced in primitive Christian healing by holy, uplifting faith; but I must know the Science of this healing, and I won my way to absolute conclusions through divine revelation, reason, and demonstration."

It should be noted that the operation of Christian Science is not, as this doctor suggests, "mind over matter." Christian Science teaches the allness of Mind, God, and the nothingness of matter. Jesus' acts or demonstrations seemed miraculous to the so-called human mind, but were simply a manifestation of the power or presence of God to heal men of the ills "that flesh is heir to." In Science, God alone is the healer, and not the so-called human mind. Neither the human mind nor matter is a factor in the healing as accomplished through the teachings of Christian Science.
