Christian Science has brought me many blessings
Christian Science has brought me many blessings. I am very thankful for this opportunity to express my deep gratitude for the healing of the effects of a severe accident. While cycling home from the Christian Science Sunday School I was knocked down by a motor cyclist. Some scholars were riding with me, and they quickly turned to God for help by knowing the truth and calling a Christian Science practitioner. Meanwhile I was carried to a hotel, where the proprietor summoned a doctor. He found that I had a fractured skull and other injuries. I was unconscious, and remained so for eight days, when I regained consciousness and began at once to gain in other directions. My first request was for my books. I read the fourteenth chapter of John, which begins, "Let not your heart be troubled," and felt myself becoming gradually stronger as I read. For this proof that the Word is with power I am very thankful; for it has since encouraged me on several occasions to turn more trustingly to the Bible for help.
My relatives, not understanding Christian Science and its spiritual means of healing, were full of fear, and for their satisfaction the doctor continued his visits for a little time, although he knew I was not under medical treatment. There was great fear and confusion, also much opposition to Christian Science around me; and for this reason it was possible to have only absent treatment for the first two weeks. Nothing, however, could hinder or interfere with the work, for it was the power of God. I am grateful for the faithful work of the practitioner, who held to the truth with such patience and courage.
With both my hearing and sight it was proved that man's senses are spiritual. The drum of one ear was destroyed, but I did not lose my hearing. My sight was greatly impaired, and I was left with double vision. After having treatment for this for several weeks, I realized that I had to do my own work and that I should be led to see the truth for myself. I therefore discontinued treatment for this; and later on, while thinking about the "tree of the knowledge of good and evil," trying more earnestly to see only good and at the same time to realize the nothingness of evil, instantaneously I saw with single vision, and the healing was complete. Several other healings were also instantaneous, including apparently a loose condition of the bones in the head, also sleeplessness; while pains in the head and a locked condition of the jaw yielded within a very short time.
