The Record's report of Dean Charles R. Brown's recent address contains this statement: "If one believes that Christian Science will bring health, it pays to believe it." By classifying the Christian Scientist with those who serve God "for what there is in it," Dean Brown does the sincere Christian Scientist an injustice. It is true that thousands have been healed of sickness by Christian Science. But to be a believer in Christian Science merely for the purpose of gaining and regaining physical health is very far from being a Christian Scientist. From the following tenet found on page 497 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, one can gain a good idea of what it means to be a Christian Scientist: "And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure."
