After years of fruitless searching for healing and a regenerated...
After years of fruitless searching for healing and a regenerated life of usefulness, I was invited, in the year 1916, to attend a Christian Science lecture given in one of our local churches in New York. It was only through the loving persuasion of my sister that I consented to go, for being at that time a medical nurse, I ridiculed Christian Science, and went only to satisfy her. I, however, reaped the benefit. The deep sense of peace and calm experienced during that hour was inexpressible.
When Christian Science first came to me I was in a very discordant condition mentally and physically. Life was just a monotonous existence, and the struggle at times was almost too great. During the years of blessedness since then I have had so many healings (in some instances of conditions which threatened to become chronic), that I can only say with the Psalmist, "My cup runneth over." Among the many benefits ecperienced was the putting off of eyeglasses and abdominal bandages. I have also been healed of constipation of many years' standing, hemorrhoidal hemorrhages, a form of hysteria, neuritis, nervous indigestion, lumbago, pleurisy, itching rash or malnutrition, and eczema.
While endlessly grateful for these and many other healings, I cannot fail to recognize and appreciate most heartily the gradual molding of my character. While I formerly boasted of a wonderful disposition, I realized in the light of Truth, which sifts every quality of erroneous thinking during the process of purification, that I possessed an unlovely character. Much has been done, and I am hopeful and encouraged that as I strive daily for the Mind of Christ, "patience must 'have her perfect work," as Mrs. Eddy has written on page 454 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." The wilderness struggle before overcoming the false sense of home, friends, position, seemed long and bitter; but the joy and freedom, and the great sense of peace over the complete victory won, are the "pearl of great price."
