Science is demonstrable knowledge

Science is demonstrable knowledge. Christian Science demonstrates its healing power through the understanding which John in his epistle says "the Son of God ... hath given us." The lives of Christian Scientists prove that this Science is demonstrable and bears the fruit of Spirit.

The last thing that a Christian Scientist would want to be guilty of would be ridiculing the Bible. To show the falsity of some theological interpretations of Scripture is not ridiculing the Bible. I previously stated in these columns that "it is not conceivable that the man made of dust, the counterfeit, whimsical, erring mortal man of flesh is the man made in God's image and likeness." I also stated that Christian Scientists do not believe that God made man capable of sinning and then punished him for doing so. To believe that the God whom Jesus the Christ knew, and taught us we should love, is better than that is surely not ridiculing the Bible.

Because Mrs. Eddy has been quoted does not in any way prove that Christian Scientists use "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" as a "substitute Bible." And even more emphatically must it be insisted that they do not think of Mrs. Eddy as "their Christ." The first religious tenet of Christian Science reads (Science and Health, p. 497), "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life." In her Message to The Mother Church for 1902 (p. 4) Mrs. Eddy says, "Follow your Leader, only so far as she follows Christ." Many other quotations could be given showing that Christian Scientists revere the Bible as the Word of God; and acknowledge Christ Jesus alone as their Saviour—the Mesiah, or anointed one.
