I also desire to unite my song of thanksgiving to those...
I also desire to unite my song of thanksgiving to those others which are rising everywhere for the precious teachings which Christian Science brings to all who are ready to accept them. When I first learned of Christian Science, I was very much depressed; life seemed to me to be a series of disappointments, aimless and uninteresting. I found no consolation in my religion, as I could not accept a God who sent evil to His children. It was at this point that I became acquainted with Christian Science through friends, who gave me some copies of Le Heraut de Christian Science and some pamphlets to read. I soon accepted it, not that I then understood its depth of meaning, but because I had regained some degree of mental peace.
When my husband passed on, Christian Science was a source of great consolation; for I understood then that the Life which is God is never touched by the experience of death, but continues unchanged. A sense of loneliness was gradually overcome through understanding that true happiness depends on neither circumstances, nor persons, nor surroundings, but on our obedience in following divine Principle. The desire to be able to work in the Father's vineyard has replaced the search for personal and selfish happiness, and has made me know "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding." This experience has proved to me the truth of Mrs. Eddy's words in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 574), "The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares."
Christian Science has improved my health, and healed all the difficulties which have come up, such as colds and coughs, which were very obstinate under medical treatment, giddiness, and so on. It also protected me on the occasion of a fall which might have had serious results. In my daily life I find Christian Science an ever present help in the office and at home in proportion as I put my understanding into practice. I am more grateful than I can say for the spiritual uplift which Christian Science has brought me. I have learned that reality is not in the human sense of things but in spiritual ideas, and that we possess now "the glorious liberty of the children of God," of which Paul speaks. I can truthfully say that Christian Science is the joy of my life, a joy which the world cannot take away, because it comes from the Father.
