Seven years ago I was very ill. I had been under the care of two physicians for some time, and had become very much discouraged because the promised cure had not been accomplished. I seemed to be worse after the treatment, for the result of the whole thing was that I could not use my voice at all; and as I was a singer, this made things look more hopeless. It was at this time that I started to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I shall never forget how the beliefs that bound me were dissolved when the right idea of atonement was revealed to me as I read the chapter on Atonement and Eucharist. Where formerly I had always thought of atonement as meaning punishment, I now found it meant at-one-ment with Truth and Love. This revelation healed me instantly.

Since then we have had many experiences which have taught us that Christian Science is surely the Comforter spoken of by Jesus. I am indeed grateful to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for being able to reveal such a wonderful God as divine Love; also for making the words and works of Christ Jesus practical in our everyday life, and for opening up the Bible through her clear explanation of its teachings so that we may use it as our guide to eternal life.
