The Lectures

Los Angeles, Calif. (Tenth Church).—The following introductory remarks were made by Mrs. Anna M. Conway at a Christian Science lecture by Frank Bell:—

Christian Science derives its sanction from the Bible. In order to reach the heights of Christian Science man must live in obedience to its divine Principle, which is God. In the twelfth chapter of Mark we read, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength;" and, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we read (p. 472), "God is to be understood, adored, and demonstrated." Christian Science brings to us the true nature of God. The essential nature of God is that of omnipotent, ever present Love. No other word so clearly conveys the thought of tenderness, gentleness, and compassion. No greater message could come to mankind than that God is Love. It is this understanding of God that heals and saves. And only as the individual gains this understanding of God as taught in Christian Science will he be able to love God supremely and his neighbor as himself.
