I did not come to Christian Science for physical healing,...
I did not come to Christian Science for physical healing, although there were discordant conditions to be overcome, but because it promised to be so satisfying, so well worth while. A friend had been healed of a most disagreeable temper, and as my own was far from what I wished it to be, the thought came to me, If that is all Christian Science can do, even so it is of value to the world. To-day I can say I am far less critical, sarcastic, selfish, and irascible than I was. With these improved mental conditions came improved physical conditions. Sick headaches have become less frequent and far less severe. The fear of certain foods has entirely disappeared, and I eat what I wish, whenever I wish. A painful condition of the arches of my feet was instantly healed while I was at a Christian Science lecture. The belief of infection after having my arm badly lacerated by an angry cat was met, and a perfect healing followed after the absent treatment. A so-called predisposition to tonsillitis has disappeared; and I have had no throat trouble for several years. A more recent healing was of a severe felon, the pain lasting only a few hours.
For these physical healings I am grateful; but Christian Science has done more for me than this. All my life I had been of a melancholy nature, supersensitive and timid. These conditions are rapidly disappearing, and I am beginning to realize that in God's "presence is fulness of joy." Christian Science has revealed to me a God I can love and trust. It is a religion which not only satisfies, but urges on to higher understanding and enables us to prove our progress as we go. Each day I realize more what Mrs. Eddy has done, not only for her students, but for the world. I am grateful for each activity she established—grateful for those who are bravely and loyally following, in a degree at least, our Way-shower, Christ Jesus.
I wish in conclusion to express my gratitude for class instruction, for the privilege of teaching in a Christian Science Sunday School, and for my membership in a branch church and in The Mother Church.
