Christian Science has entirely changed my outlook on...
Christian Science has entirely changed my outlook on life by giving me a demonstrable knowledge of the ever-presence of God. Both doctor and specialist said I would develop consumption unless my health improved; and it seemed as if there was discord everywhere and everybody was against me.
Constipation has been overcome through Christian Science, both for myself and for my baby; also severe colds. On one occasion every bone in my body seemed to ache; and, feeling that I could not help myself, I telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner, who spoke a few loving words, and said that every time a sick thought came I was to repeat something from the Bible, such as, "The earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof." Needless to say, the cold disappeared in less then an hour. When I stopped feeding the baby, several large swellings appeared, one about the size of half an egg; and they were very painful. It was Sunday, and when I got home from church that evening I repeated the "scientific statement of being," as given by Mrs. Eddy on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," also the spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer (pp. 16, 17), pondering each word and trying to understand the truth underlying the words. When I had finished, the swellings had entirely disappeared. As Mrs. Eddy says (p. 14): "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints."
On another occasion the baby seemed ill, and I began to wonder what he had eaten or done; then fear crept in, until quite suddenly the thought came to me that Jesus never tried to discover what the error was—he just knew man was perfect. As soon as my thought was clear, baby got well instantaneously; later I found he had swallowed a large piece of celluloid.
