In the year 1910, through the advice of a Christian Scientist, I purchased a copy of that wonderful book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I read it for nearly three years without understanding it. Suddenly I was stricken down helpless in New York and placed under the care of a doctor, who in a few days had me removed to a private hospital. Another doctor was called in to help diagnose my case. They decided to perform an operation the following morning to learn the cause of my illness.

With the Christian Science textbook under my pillow, I made a complete surrender of myself to God that night in my prayer, which was answered. I was able to dress and walk out of the hospital alone the next morning before the doctors had arrived. My strength was entirely restored within two months by prayer and daily reading of the Bible and Science and Health. The spiritual uplift has led me into a new life, full of love, happiness, and joy; and I am so grateful to God and to Mrs. Eddy, since by her writings I have been able to find this blessed truth. I have overcome many difficulties, such as ptomaine poisoning, influenza, and blood poisoning, by prayer and reading the textbook. I owe everything to God and to Christian Science.
