Christ Jesus declared, "My kingdom is not of this...

Christ Jesus declared, "My kingdom is not of this world;" and by precept and example he lifted men from material worship to the worship of the Father "in spirit and in truth." He established an unchangeable code of Christian conduct, to love God, and one's neighbor as one's self; and declared: "To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice." Christian Science accepts Christ Jesus' statement, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world;" that the Christ has come a second time to every one who has in some degree the Mind of Christ, who understands and practices the truth. Every one hears his voice now who follows "the way, the truth, and the life" of the Christ. Christian Scientists do not watch "the face of the sky" to witness the second coming of the corporeal Jesus, but are endeavoring to live the Christ-life in "love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance;" and to the extent that this is done, they are successful in the "signs following." To use the words of Jesus, "In my name shall they cast out devils [evils]; they shall speak with new tongues; ... they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." The Christian life with "signs following," is of more practical value than the contemplation of the return of Jesus as a corporeal presence. "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing."
