[Original poem in German]

Love

Be loving to others, though they be ungrateful,God's faithful reflection can never be hateful.Cast down every idol with firmness unfailing,Let nothing dissuade thee from error's unveiling.

There is no escaping the meshes so blightingOf self-love and envy, in slander delighting,Save patiently, meekly, with loving forbearance,Uprooting, destroying, each evil appearance.
