About thirty-six years ago I fell through a roof to the ground, sixty-five feet, breaking two large ribs and cracking my breastbone. I was unconscious for three days. The doctors gave me up; but the third day I came to, and gradually grew stronger. At last I was strong enough to walk with crutches. I took medicine daily for about thirty-one years; but it did me no good. Then I went to a specialist, who said he could cure me. I doctored with him a year and a half, when he pronounced me cured. Within six months the trouble started again; and in a short time I was worse than I had been before. I was troubled with constipation, indigestion, and bladder difficulty. The doctors said the only thing that would help me would be an operation; but I would not consent to that. I worked a short time grinding tools; then I suffered from the emery dust in the lungs. My niece had spoken to me of Christian Science several times, but I did not believe in it. A few days later I stopped at her home to rest; for somehow when I stopped there she would tell me about Christian Science, and I would feel much better. This day she asked me if I would not go to see a practitioner and have treatment, and said if I were not any better in a week she would not ask me to try any more. I consented, and took the next car to the practitioner's. I became so interested that I came away without even telling her what ailed me. I thank God, and her; for I went home and ate the largest meal I had had for months. The next night I went to work, and stayed until the job was finished. This was about four years ago. All the discordant conditions have been overcome. I shall be seventy years old in June, but feel as young as I did forty years ago.
I thank God for sending me to my niece, who sent me to a practitioner, who proved to me what God is; and I thank and revere Mary Baker Eddy for publishing the book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," that teaches us how to demonstrate this Science. It seems the oftener we read it the happier and more contented we are. And I am most grateful for the privilege of being a member of a Christian Science Society.
