Refreshment in Spiritual Understanding
Although to-day there is apparent to human view a world submerged in conflict and strife, presenting the belief of many ruling minds at war with each other, yet it is true that this condition of unrest and turmoil is not peculiar to the age in which we live, but has prevailed throughout the ages. But again and again, amid this discordant sense of things, there have been those spiritually-minded ones who have found refuge in uplifted thought, and who because of this have been protected from the self-destruction of material thinking.
There is no one, when he has looked Spiritward, who has not found comfort and inspiration from Noah's experience experience of safety in the ark, and from that of Daniel when heturned his thought from the lions in the to God's presence there. The writher of the ninety-first psalm must, indeed, have experienced great comfort by dwelling in the "secret place of the most High," or in spiritual understanding, the protection of which he so confidently and assuringly sets forth. Indeed, there are numberless instances cited in the Bible wherein spiritually-minded men have realized and proved spiritual good to be the omnipresent fact. Mrs. Eddy, in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 32), states of Jesus, who completely demonstrated the reality of things spiritual, "Jesus prayed: he withdrew from the material senses to refresh his heart with brighter, with spiritual views."
These many experiences recorded in the Bible of those who have turned their thought from apparently distressing material evidence, and found spiritual peace and harmony to be the ever present reality, afford assurance to those of us who are ready and glad to turn from the false, material view of things and find refreshment in a higher concept of God and man. Mrs. Eddy, through her discovery of Christian Science and the founding of the Christian Science movement, has made this possible for all; and multitudes all over the world are joyfully proving the value and practicality of the correct spiritual viewpoint which Christian Science gives.
