"Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it," we read in Proverbs. It is for this spiritual understanding, as revealed in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, that I wish to express my gratitude.

Before coming into Christian Science, I was always ill. As a baby I had suffered from consumption of the bowels. The doctor told my mother that if I recovered the trouble would return again in the form of softening of the bones. This it did; and I underwent three operations, but they were only temporarily successful. I adhered to the doctor's treatments for some time, but with no result. When I told her I was not getting any better, she said: "I am very sorry for you indeed. There is no cure for you; it is only a matter of time."

About seven months later my sister heard of a very wonderful healing in Christian Science. She then asked me if I should like to go to the Wednesday evening testimony meeting. I did so, and was much impressed by the testimonies given. I felt Scientists must be supernatural people, but was soon disillusioned. I made an appointment with a practitioner for the next afternoon. She so clearly unfolded to me the truth about God and His creation that was instantaneously healed. I saw at once that if God made all that was made, "and, behold, it was very good," the consumption and other ailments to which I was in bondage were not real. When the practitioner asked if I wanted help for anything, I was able to say, "After what you have said there is nothing to be healed;" and that was the end of those troubles. I went home singing and rejoicing that I had at last found a God who was near me. My people asked me what the practitioner had said to make such a wonderful change. I answered, "She has told me the truth about God and His idea."
