Christian Science is the practice of healing through the truth, the method Jesus used and of which he spoke to his followers in the words, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Christian Science, being based on the teachings and practice of the Master, Jesus the Christ, is therefore as old as Christianity itself. It is not, however, by years that one can count the growth of Christianity, but, to quote Jesus again, "by their fruits ye shall know them." Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has given many clear and intelligible statements about God in her various writings. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 275) she writes, "The starting point of divine Science is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that there is no other might nor Mind,—that God is Love, and therefore He is divine Principle." It may be said for Christian Scientists that they acknowledge the absolute supremacy of Spirit, God, here and now.

It is true that Christian Science teaches the unreality of both sin and disease. We learn from the Bible that "all things were made by him [the Word of God]; and without him was not any thing made that was made." The teaching of Christian Science is based on this sure foundation. It teaches that all that God has made is real and perfect and eternal; that He made everything good. On this Scriptural basis, following in the footsteps of Jesus and his disciples, Christian Scientists go forth to destroy sin and sickness. Neither the one nor the other is to be condoned or ignored, but both are to be healed. Thus, through the kindly and loving ministration of the truth, the slave of sinful appetites finds himself freed, the sorrowing are comforted, and the sick are restored to health. On page 497 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says: "We acknowledge God's forgiveness of sin in the destruction of sin and the spiritual understanding that casts out evil as unreal. But the belief in sin is punished so long as the belief lasts." Mrs. Eddy has given no mere theory to the world, but demonstrable Science. Any one honestly desiring to preach the gospel and heal the sick may prove for himself the truth of Christian Science.
