Healing through Mind
A Great deal of attention is being given to-day to spiritual healing. Men and women everywhere are questioning as to its possibility; and those who are not blinded by prejudice are acknowledging what Christian Science is doing. For the thousands who testify through the Christian Science periodicals and at the Wednesday evening testimony meetings of the Churches of Christ, Scientist, throughout the world that they have been healed through Christian Science of maladies of all sorts, including sin and disease, are but a small part of the great army who have experienced the healing power of divine Mind.
As a result of this questioning and acknowledging, attempts are being made by some religionists to combine the use of material remedies with what is thought to be spiritual power. Some are using material agencies and praying God to bless their use, apparently oblivious to the fact that since God is omnipotent He is able to heal any and every discord without aid of any sort. It is obvious that there must be something radically wrong in the concept of God held by those who follow such procedure. They may admit with the lips that God is omnipotent, but it cannot be allowed that they are understanding what they say.
Now Christian Science relies on spiritual means alone for healing; relies entirely on prayer to destroy every belief of inharmony which afflicts mankind, be it sin or disease. Christian Science utilizes the power of divine Mind to nullify the errors of material sense or mortal mind. This method was the one used by Christ Jesus, the Founder of Christianity, who said, "The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." It was Truth, the power of God, divine Mind, reflected by him, which did the works. And knowing that the power of divine Mind is available to all, the Master said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do." The doing of the greater works is thus a question of spiritual understanding, of that understanding which he, as the great revelator of God to men, demonstrated so efficiently to the world. Referring to this very point, Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), "It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good."
