Laying the Corner-stone

It is a very blessed privilege to be able to send our children to a Christian Science Sunday School. Our Leader, in her God-governed wisdom, established this important branch of our work; and we may be sure that to have our children in their places promptly every Sunday is worth the greatest effort on our part. It may require some self-denial, some overcoming of material ease, and obedience and appreciation, but it will mean measureless results to the future of our children and of our Cause.

Let us never listen to the specious suggestions of error that there is just as good teaching at home, or that we do not like the teacher or the superintendent, or, worse still, that as Church is "the structure of Truth and Love," as Mrs. Eddy has said in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 583), it is unnecessary to go to a building, or send our children to one, in order to be in Church. This last argument is only error's way of twisting the facts, "which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest . . . unto their own destruction." We shall never prove for ourselves or our children that Church is indeed "the structure of Truth and Love" by staying away ourselves, or keeping the children away, from the present symbol of that structure.

Our beloved Leader knew that at present the grown children and the little children need the Christian Science organization in all its branches, and that nothing can be a substitute for it. Just as the older student will profit by the class teaching wisely provided for him in our Manual, so will the child advance through the spiritual benefit of sharing in the instruction and inspiration of the Christian Science Sunday School. The activities of the Sunday school are foundational; and these activities are acknowledged by all Christian Scientists to be a tremendously important part of Church building, and one which must be safeguarded in every way.
