In December, 1921, my middle toe became infected from treatment for a soft corn. From that time on I was under a doctor's care until the first of May, 1922. For approximately two months before this time I was taken to the hospital every day to have the toe dressed. Being unable to walk, I was carried in a chair to a car, and then to the hospital. The toe was amputated about the middle of April, and the first of May the doctor said gangrene had set in and it would be necessary to amputate the foot.
At this time I turned to Christian Science for help. When a practitioner was called, she made it plain that nothing was to be used on my foot but clean water and that I was to rely absolutely on Christian Science. I immediately began to study "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy in connection with the Bible; also "Rudimental Divine Science" by Mrs. Eddy was read and reread. The healing effects of Christian Science began to be felt almost immediately. The pain had been severe and constant. A whole neighborhood of friends watched very closely; and many said I was sure to die now, as I had turned to Christian Science. There was also opposition to meet with relatives in the home.
By the middle of July I was able to attend church. The healing has been permanent, and I am now able to walk about everywhere. I am indeed grateful for this clear demonstration of the power of God to heal discordant conditions through the understanding gained by the study and application of Mrs. Eddy's writings, and for the loving practitioner who so patiently helped me through the night of false belief until I could see the light of Truth.
