I first heard of Christian Science in 1905 through the healing of my sister of asthma. Four medical men had pronounced her case incurable. She had suffered eight years, but was healed quickly through Christian Science treatment. She is free from asthma now, and has been ever since her healing. Another sister was healed of tumor; and another, of consumption. All these healings have been permanent, as they occurred about eighteen years ago.

In 1919, I left England to make my home in New Guinea. A greater change of conditions could scarcely be imagined. My new home was a house built on piles eight feet from the ground, and every high tide came under the house, the place being swampy, low-lying ground in the Fly River Delta. You might look around when the tide was high and fancy you were in a boat on the sea. Fever is quite common with both natives and Europeans. I had an attack of fever the first month I was here, but have not had another attack since. All other white women who have come here have had to leave this part of the country for their health. There is only one other white woman besides myself here now; the others have been on sick leave or long furloughs, and not one of them has resided here long since I came. I have excellent health, thanks to Christian Science, and can say also that I have overcome my fear of snakes to a great extent. Love's protecting power is the most helpful thought I have had. It has helped when I was left alone, my husband being away from home on business for ten days at a time and snakes being numerous. Several came into the house. I have slept with a snake in the room all night, yet no one had a greater horror of snakes than I previously had.

I have also demonstrated over kidney trouble, hemorrhage, and skin disease since I came out here. As the nearest cable station is one hundred and fifty miles away, one has to work out one's own problems. I have had the privilege of class instruction, for which I am very grateful. The thoughts one gets in class continue to help in after years, whenever help is most needed. I am also grateful for the Christian Science literature, which is a great help. I have taken the Journal, Sentinel, and Monitor for about fifteen years and should not like to be without them. I am writing this testimony in the hope it may help others as I have been helped, and as a just tribute to the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy.
