Great Possessions

He was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.—Mark 10:22.

My great possessions lie before me spread,
With all the dear associations:
Treasures of by-gone days;
Things I learned in childhood; took to my heart
and lived with; fought for;
Some whom I loved and shared my treasures with.
I sit amongst my treasures,
Touching them sadly, loving each the more;
And yet, I see before me there—an open door!
I hear the words,
Take up the cross, and come, and follow me!
