I have found the testimonies in the Sentinel a sufficient remedy for temptations to discouragement. I am deeply grateful that our beloved Leader established the way through which the longing ones may learn of the happy experiences of those who have been healed, and am grateful to those who have lovingly sent in their testimonies.

About ten years ago, when in great need and in despair over ill health, as well as in bondage to medicine, liquor, and tobacco, although knowing almost nothing about the Bible or religion I one day recalled and fervently repeated the words of the Lord's Prayer, learned in early childhood. The letter of the prayer meant little or nothing to me at that time, but I remember that I poured into it a supplication to the supreme governing power to help me. I seemed to have a childlike faith and a sense of humility, sentiments previously practically unknown to me; and as I arose from that prayer I felt refreshed and hopeful. Very soon thereafter, while searching through a storeroom, I picked up an early edition of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, a book I had never seen and possibly never heard of before, although I had, of course, in common with nearly every other person in the civilized world, heard of the subject treated in the book. I read only one or two pages, and became reverently curious. I made some inquiry about Christian Science, and visited a practitioner for treatment. To my amazement and joy I was soon restored to health; and without any effort or distress on my part I was released from the liquor and tobacco habits, although I had used both to excess for many years.

During the years following, not a week has passed that I have not had some proof of the truth taught in Christian Science. It has been my only physician, my counselor, my hope, and my strength; and, humbly obedient to its loving mandates, I have far exceeded my most sanguine expectations in acquiring peace, plenty, and harmony. My slight knowledge of Christian Science is my most valued possession. Physical healing and the orderly solution of problems are, of course, abundant reason for gratitude and praise; but the significance of the physical healing is prodigious. It can only mean a demonstrable knowledge that man is not discordant, but the full expression and manifestation of the divine creative Principle, Mind, God. The knowledge that man has the divine right to manifest only good, with all that wonderful word implies, and that there is, in reality, no obstacle or opposition, is priceless. I am deeply grateful.—Almon Ray Smith, Seattle, Wash.
