Four years ago, when I was searching for a practical religion, one that would really help and save me from doubt and unhappiness, I found the truth in Christian Science; and I wish to express the deep gratitude I feel for all it has done and is doing for me. The God I had been taught about when a child was more terrifying than loving; and I had seen little else but lives governed by fear, sickness, lack, and unhappiness. I often tried to understand what God really was, the reason for the sin and sorrow of the world, and how men could be saved from their bondage. When pondering these questions, I sometimes felt on the brink of some beautiful revelation; but the vision always became obscured, and there often followed a time of darker materialism and doubt than before.
Nothing could reveal the truth about God and man for which I was seeking but the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This indeed proved a "key" to the Scriptures, which had before seemed full of contradictions; and I can never express the joy I experienced when I first read the Bible in the light of the new understanding I had gained through reading the textbook. Even a small degree of this understanding revealed unmistakably how men can be saved now from every evil belief. Fear, self-will, and selfishness in many forms have seemed to darken my path; but the help I have received, and which is always so lovingly given in times of need, has always revealed the healing power of Christian Science and pointed the way in which it can be applied to every human need.
When first reading the textbook I was completely healed of what had been pronounced by the doctors chronic throat and ear trouble. Recently, while in London, and through the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner, I was healed of an attack of mumps within a few hours, all pain and discomfort vanishing immediately; while I suffered no inconvenience from the swelling, which disappeared within a few days.
