[Written for the Sentinel]

The Awakening

Now to hearts of men are stealing
Thoughts of Truth that are revealing
Freedom as man's true estate;
Good as pow'r and all-availing,
Over evil's claims prevailing;
Love and justice, meekness, mercy,
Mightier far than greed and hate.

Aye, through brazen tumult breaking
Thrills the cry of men awaking
To the call of brotherhood;
To the call of righteous thinking;
Unselfed love that goes unshrinking
Forth to battle, and to conquer
All the enemies of good.

'Tis a consecrating hour
When men waken to God's power
And no other gods obey;
Then wars cease; for one Mind guiding,
All in Love must be abiding;
And the light of Truth's bright shining
Ushers in God's perfect day.
