In "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 23) Mrs. Eddy says, "Reason and revelation declare that God is both noumenon and phenomena,—the first and only cause." Christian Science defines God as "the great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence" (Science and Health, p. 587), and logically concludes that matter, sin, disease,—all error,—being unlike God, do not proceed from Him, and therefore are unreal. Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." It is this understanding of God and of man in His image and likeness which accomplishes the healing in Christian Science, just as it is the understanding of the rules of mathematics which enables us to demonstrate its rules. Christian Science is demonstrable. In fact, we understand only so far as we demonstrate. Is it reasonable to suppose that a healing effected through the understanding of immutable and eternal Mind is temporary and incomplete, or that omnipotent Mind cannot cure so-called organic as well as functional disorders? In the words of the Master, "With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible."
