Our critic states there are many who ardently wish to preserve a physical sense of goodness and life. Even though the so-called human mind does cling to a false sense of life and what it includes, this does not change the manifest fact that man cannot be both physical and spiritual any more than he can go east and west simultaneously. Just when did man become both spiritual and material? If he ever did so become he must have changed, for God made man in the image and likeness of Spirit. What power changed God's work? Is it not possible, is it not entirely logical, that man remains as God made him, but the human mind is so deadened by materialism that it knows neither God nor man aright? "Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?" Christian Science vigorously challenges and denies the assumption that the so-called human mind is an authority on the subject of God and man. Christian Science has, on innumerable occasions, proved that the human mind does not know what it thinks it knows. It has also proved that anything less than spiritual Truth does not, at any time, free mankind from sin, disease, and death. The outstanding fact in the realm of healing is that Christian Science is now repeating the works of Christ Jesus, who said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." In keeping with Jesus' words, Mrs. Eddy has written on page 231 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "What God cannot do, man need not attempt. If God heals not the sick, they are not healed, for no lesser power equals the infinite All-power."
