From my youth I had a longing for something by which existence could be understood,—something real, to show the right way to live. Although I believed in God, I was in need of a clearer understanding of Him. Many years passed before I found, in Christian Science, that for which I had been searching.

One day, in a hotel in England, I picked up a Sentinel; and turning the leaves of it, I became greatly interested in what I found there. My thoughts dwelt with the little I had read, and I decided not to stop until I had found the basis of Christian Science. I was, to human sense, a broken man. For years there had been sickness in my family. Death and business difficulties had brought me to the point where life had no value for me. Then I met a lady from Canada. Thinking she could probably tell me something of Christian Science, I sought an opportunity for a conversation with her, and found she knew a great deal about the subject. She willingly answered my questions and gave me some wonderful information, exactly what I needed.

During the last three years I have had many healings, among them an instantaneous healing of a fractured knee, which had failed for five years to yield to the efforts of four doctors, to massage, and to other kinds of treatment. My wife, noticing I was in pain, declared the truth. The sense of suffering vanished, and I found myself climbing rocks and taking long walks. That knee is now as perfect as the other.
