Infinite Receptivity

"Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." In these words, addressed to the Christians at Corinth, Paul hinted at the infinite blessings which the loving Father-Mother God has prepared for those who love Him. Wonderful prospect! So full of promise that mankind may well set about to establish relations with the bestower of such munificence. To seek and attain to the perfect state which God has already prepared for His beloved, is the highest aim of mortals.

In speaking of God's beneficence, Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 15), "Christians rejoice in secret beauty and bounty, hidden from the world, but known to God." And she adds this sentence: "Practice not profession, understanding not belief, gain the ear and right hand of omnipotence and they assuredly call down infinite blessings." Our Leader has here indicated that there is necessity on the part of the seeker for definite and persistent activity in order to become the beneficiary of God's munificence. The infinite reservoir is prepared: the problem is to relate one's self to it, in order that he may receive the benefits of infinite good.

In the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, engineers of the City of New York constructed a huge dam, impounding the waters of a river and forming a great lake of fresh water to supply the city. But making the reservoir was only one phase of the problem. To construct an aqueduct some eighty miles in length, whereby the pure waters could flow freely, continuously, and without contamination, to the city for use by its inhabitants was, perhaps, the most difficult part. However large the supply, however pure the water at the reservoir, unless it could be brought in sufficient quantities to meet the public need, and unless it could be kept pure along its course, the great engineering feat would be a failure. But wise and efficient men have accomplished the task, and now the dwellers in the city are blessed with a bountiful supply of pure, fresh water.
